Understanding the development process
To help you determine if you need to submit a DA or whether can build using other avenues you need to consider the planning rules for where you live and what you want to build there.
Pre-development meetings
Central Coast Council offers a range of services free of charge to discuss preliminary development and zoning matters with Council staff members including town planners, building surveyors and development engineers.Paid services including written advice, pre-development meetings and post-consent can be requested HERE.Customers who wish to book a free 15-minute telephone consultation between 10am-1pm, Monday to Friday with a Town Planner or Building Surveyor can do so by booking below and following the prompts.Customers requiring Development Engineering assistance can call the customer service centre on (02) 4306 7900 and lodge a call back request for one of our Development Engineers. Basic advice can be provided on enquiries such as flooding, stormwater, sediment control, easements, and driveway gradients.
Lodge a development application
Once your application is prepared according to the relevant guidelines and checklists, you can submit your application online via the NSW Planning Portal. The following applications must be submitted to Council through the NSW Planning Portal:Development ApplicationsSection 4.55 Modification ApplicationsComplying Development CertificatesConstruction CertificatesOccupation CertificatesSubdivision CertificatesAppointments of Council as a Principal CertifierThe above listed applications will no longer be accepted in person at our Customer Service Centres.Council is experiencing higher than average processing times for development applications.

Before making a submission about a DA you should inspect the plans and read any accompanying information so you are clear on the details.
Track a development application
You can search and track all current development applications, construction certificates and other associated documents online via the eplanning portal.You can locate documents by address, lot number, application number or date. Alternatively, all applications that have been submitted via the NSW Planning Portal since 16 June 2020 can be viewed using the NSW Application Tracker.
