Gosford CBD Water and Sewer upgrades

Central Coast Council’s Water and Sewer team are working with our contractors to complete an extensive works program to make sure water and sewer infrastructure in the Gosford CBD can keep pace with growth over the next 30 years.

The project will provide a reliable water service to the Gosford CBD to meet the demands of new developments and deliver the vision of Gosford as the capital of the Central Coast. This includes meeting the needs of an increased level of high-rise residential dwellings, the ongoing redevelopment of Gosford Hospital and other developments planned for the Gosford CBD area.

The work includes 43 water main projects and 23 sewer upgrades and proudly funded by the NSW Government through the Housing Acceleration Fund (HAF). Council has received $42.5million in funding through the HAF to deliver these water and sewer infrastructure upgrades which will be competed in late 2025.

There will be changes to traffic and temporary road closures throughout the works, visit our road closures page for the latest information.

Important reminder: While we are undertaking essential sewer construction works in Gosford CBD, every effort is being made to ensure the safety of traffic, residents, and local businesses. However, we advise all community members to exercise extra caution when in the vicinity of active construction areas. Council remains committed to closely monitoring and managing these works to minimise any potential disruptions and impacts.

NSW Government Housing Acceleration Fund (HAF) Program: Water and Sewer Improvement Projects

As part of the NSW Government-funded Housing Acceleration Fund (HAF) Program, Council is preparing to commence construction on three critical water and sewer improvement projects, each involving railway crossing elements. These projects aim to enhance local infrastructure and support community growth.

Project 1: Sewer Pressure Main Southern Rail Crossing

This project involves the installation of a new sewer pressure main extending from the western side of the Brian McGown Bridge. The pipeline will run along the footpath/bicycle track under the bridge and cross the railway line using underground boring methods. It will connect to the existing sewer system near the Industree Stadium scoreboard.

Project 2: Water Main Southern Rail Crossing

A new water main will be installed, connecting to the existing Donnison Street West line. The pipeline will run along Cape Street South and Riou Street before crossing under the railway line parallel to the sewer line mentioned above. It will eventually link to the existing water network in the footpath south of the Industree Group Stadium.

Project 3: Northern Gravity Sewer Rail Crossing

This project includes the decommissioning of the existing sewage pumping station in the Dwyer Street commercial area car park, adjacent to the railway line. All flows will be redirected through a new underground sewer line that runs along the northern fence of Gosford High School, eventually discharging into the existing sewage pumping station within the Gosford Golf Course grounds.

Council will provide further updates and detailed information as these projects progress.
