    World Pickleball Weekend on the Central Coast

    The Office of Sport is partnering with Central Coast Council and local Pickleball organisations to deliver an extended weekend of free Pickleball activities from Thursday 10 - Sunday 13 October.Recognising World Pickleball Day on 10 October, local pickleball organisations will come together to host ‘World Pickleball Weekend’ with free activities for players of all abilities at venues across the Central Coast.World Pickleball Weekend aims to introduce new players to the sport, enhance the skills of current enthusiasts, get people more active and foster social connections through Pickleball.Events will be held at a range of venues, including Peninsula Leisure Centre, Gosford Tennis and Pickleball Club, Breakers Indoor Stadium, Bateau Bay PCYC, Summerland Sporties, Kariong Tennis courts and Pat Morley Oval Bateau Bay, which will host an activation specifically for people with a disability.For those looking for a self-guided introduction to Pickleball, simply borrow a kit from either Kariong, Kincumber or Bateau Bay Library or Old Mates Kitchen at Green Point Shopping Centre and head to a local court.The kits have everything needed to play Pickleball, including a net, balls, paddles and simple instructions on how to play.

    Encouraging men to talk about mental health in October

    October is Mental Health Month, with this year's theme 'Let's Talk About It', and Central Coast Council is encouraging the local community, especially men, to take time out to understand the importance of good mental health in our everyday lives and to encourage help seeking behaviours when needed.The Central Coast consistently has some of the highest numbers of deaths by suicide in Australia*, and local mental health experts have identified men on the Central Coast as a high-risk group.

    New carpark to improve access to Rumbalara Reserve

    The work program to renew the carpark at Dolly Avenue, Springfield are now complete and has provided an improved carpark surface, new retaining walls and an accessible car space which meets required standards.This carpark provides the community and visitors with a great starting point to many bush walking trails through Rumbalara Reserve, which is home to amazing local fauna such as the sugar glider and Australia’s largest owl species, the powerful owl, or just take in the scenic views of Brisbane Water from the nearby Dolly Avenue lookout.Please remember to respect our unique natural environment and take any rubbish with you.

    $28.3million funding secured for Wisemans Ferry Road remediation

    We are excited to have successfully secured $28.3million funding from the Australian and NSW Governments for the remediation works on Wisemans Ferry Road.Repairs and betterment works are now underway for more than 40 landslip sites on Wisemans Ferry Road in Spencer and Gunderman.Wisemans Ferry Road experienced widespread damage including embankments with landslides and rockfalls at multiple locations, after major flooding and storms in 2022.Since the time that emergency works were undertaken to reinstate road access and ensure safe use of the road, Council has continued to work on delivering solutions to get the road back to working order and to better withstand future natural disasters.These long-awaited works have been much anticipated by the community after many natural disasters and storm events impacted local roads and the day-to-day life of locals, as well as visitors to the area.Extensive slope and road pavements work are progressing across multiple sites on Wisemans Ferry Road (Spencer to Gunderman) in various stages from 2024 to 2026:Road pavement restoration works are anticipated to be completed in October 2024.The landslip works to repair the road embankment and upslope failures at over 40 sites along Wisemans Ferry Road (Spencer to Wisemans Ferry Landing) have commenced.

    Court decision supports Council’s prosecution of illegal tree clearing

    Central Coast Council has successfully prosecuted a landowner in the Mangrove Mountain area for unlawfully clearing vegetation without approval.The unlawful clearing related to the removal of approximately three hectares of native vegetation, equating to about 240 Olympic sized swimming pools.
